The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee will be conducting the online GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) from February 4th to 5th, 2017 and February 11th to 12th, 2017 (Saturdays and Sundays only).
As per an official notification, the online application process will start from September 1.
Admission to Post Graduate Courses (Master's and Doctoral) with MHRD and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science are open to those who qualify in GATE. The GATE Score is also used by some PSUs for their recruitment. The validity of GATE 2017 Score shall be for three years.
Candidates with any of the following qualifications are eligible to appear in GATE.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after diploma in Engineering /Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programmes are eligible to apply, or
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture (Five year Course) and those who are in the final year of such programs, or
- Bachelor's degree of Four-Year programme in Science (B.Sc) and those who are in the final year of such programs, or
- Master's degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes, or
- Four-Year Integrated Master's Degree (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology and those in the second or higher year of such programmes, or
- Five-Year Integrated Master's degree or Dual Degree in Engineering / Technology and those in the fourth or higher year of such programs, or
- Five-Year Integrated Master of Science (M.Sc) or Five Year Integrated B.Sc/M.Sc degree, and those in the final year of such programs, or
- Candidates with qualification obtained through examinations conducted by profesional societies recognised by UPSC / AICTE as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. Those who have completed section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses arealso eligible.

Examination for all the papers shall be conducted in ONLINE mode only (Computer Based Test).
All candidates have to apply only ONLINE. Details of the application fee are shown below. The application fee is non-refundable.

The application fee has to be paid only online either through net Banking or e-challan.

GATE 2017 examination shall be held for international candidates in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates (U.A.E).
The XE paper now has a new section on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (section H). With this the number of sections in the XE paper has increased to eight (A-H).
